West Midlands Centre for Constructing Excellence (WMCCE)

The West Midlands Centre for Constructing Excellence (WMCCE) provides specialist business improvement assistance specifically to help local businesses in the construction and building technologies sectors. Eligible businesses in the West Midlands can benefit from subsidised, or in some cases fully-funded, business improvement services.

The Centre supports the region's industry-led Constructing Excellence clubs and delivers the regional demonstration programme to showcase innovation and best practice.

WMCCE was set up with support from Advantage West Midlands and the European Regional Development Fund, to improve the capabilities and competitiveness of the West Midlands construction industry. The Centre is supported by the University of Wolverhampton.

Construction Skills

ConstructionSkills is the Sector Skills Council for construction. They represent every part of the construction industry, from architects to bricklayers, in every part of the UK and cover every part of the skills agenda - from grants to college places. They understand what the industry wants and needs; tell that directly to government, and have the power to get things done.

Sector Skills Councils (SSCs) have been set up to decide how training is delivered and funded in the UK.  They are independent, employer-led organisations that actively involve trade unions, professional bodies and other key stakeholders.

Collectively the SSCs form the Skills for Business Network, which is responsible for tackling the skills and productivity needs of the UK.
SSCs are the voice of the industry they represent – not of Government. But they are answerable to Government for meeting their targets through their Sector Skills Agreement (SSA) and the Sector Skills Development Agency (SSDA).

Constructing Excellence

Constructing Excellence is the single organisation charged with driving the change agenda in construction, housing and regeneration. They exist to improve industry performance in order to produce a better built environment. They are a cross-sector, cross-supply chain, member led organisation operating for the good of industry, aiming to assist the realisation of maximum value to all clients, end-users and stakeholders.

Constructing Excellence delivers three major business streams: major government programmes (principally under a contract with the DTI); membership programmes; and other commercial contracts.

National Skills Academy for Construction

A network of employer-led, world-class centres of excellence, delivering the skills required by each sector of the economy.

National Skills Academies are an exciting evolution in the way we train our workforce. For the first time, employers are taking control of the design and delivery of learning in their industry, working in partnership with government and top training providers, from both the public and private sectors.

This has revolutionised thinking about the skills we need, responding to employers’ insights and experience and developing programmes tailor-made for their industries. It means higher standards of training delivery, as employers know the levels of performance they need from their people to keep ahead of the competition, whether at home or abroad.

It’s a simple fact of business. If we want to compete in world-class markets, we need a world-class workforce. That’s what the National Skills Academy network is helping to deliver.
